Linux Application Engineer needed for a contract-to-hire opportunity with Yoh's client located in Falls Church, Virginia.
The Big Picture - Top Skills You Should Posses:
- Perl and Shell Scripting
- Linux Administration
What You'll Be Doing:
- Reviewing software and server statistics to ensure smooth operation
- Researching new methods for improving system performance
- Performing maintenance of Oracle 10g databases on development and production HPUX Servers
- Creating ad-hoc SQL queries and stored procedures to pull data from databases based on request from client
- Reviewing current SQL queries and stored procedures to ensure efficiency
- Scheduling and executing database re-indexing
- Evaluating and recommending new available database technologies and products
- Creating new CRON jobs as requested by the client
- Updating custom Perl and Shell script programs created to monitor system performance and collect data for statistical information
- Creating new Perl and Shell Scripts programs as necessary
- Cleaning up file system if critical limit is exceeded
- Providing Tier III Technical Support to end-users
- Attending weekly client status meeting and providing technical status/input
- Attending ad-hoc client meetings and providing necessary/requested technical input
- Performing installations of COTS Java product
- Supporting testing of COTS Java product and custom Java product
What You Need to Bring to the Table:
- Three (3) years of experience in systems and application administration
- Familiarity with Java preferred
- Solid experience working with Linux systems as well as creating Perl and Shell Scripts
- Understanding of and experience in managing Oracle 11g relational databases is desired, but not required
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the area of database administration for Oracle 11g databases is desired
- Must have strong Linux experience

- Professional demeanor, ability to take instructions
- Ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously
