7 Full-time 1 hour ago Full Job Description As a Health Information Management (HIM) Release of Information Specialist, you will act as a resource for the release of patient information to ensure that patient confidentiality is protected at all times.
To help achieve our mission, you will coordinate the timely response to Continuing Care requests and serve as a resource for the release of patient information while ensuring patient confidentiality is protected.
Your ability to process release of information requests and coordinate timely responses to written requests for patient information, as required by law, is of vital importance.
Demonstrating an in depth knowledge of all computer software systems and an understanding of the legal implications of responding to subpoenas for medical records is expected.
Demonstrating proficiency in the use of all computer software systems required for the release of information is required.
Job Responsibilities Responds to subpoenas, according to Inova Health System policies, within the prescribed period of time.
Serves as a Virginia Notary Public for the Release of Information (ROI) section and internal customers as needed.
Serves as an Release of Information (ROI) subject matter expert while performing complex duties including processing requests for Protected Health Information (PHI).
Determines validity of authorization, request and documentation provided from patients, doctors, hospitals, Workers' Compensation, insurance companies and legal entities (i.
e.
subpoena, subpoena documents, power of attorney, deposition and affidavits).
Serves as a direct link to the Risk Management and Legal department.
Responds to any legal actions involving Inova medical records by processing subpoenas and court orders within required time frames.
Acts as a resource to customers regarding release of information laws while ensuring proper authorization and legal documents are obtained necessary to comply with requests.
Ensures all requests for all medical record requests are processed within seven business days.
(Exception:
EpicCare MyChart requests are processed within 72 hours.
) Verifies the identity of requests to ensure requests for patient health information are confidential, timely, accurate and follow established policies with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements Education:
Associate degree or HS Diploma/GED and three years of equivalent/ relevant ROI work experience.
Experience:
Three years of relevant work experience in any of these settings or graduate of accredited Health Information Technology (HIM) accredited program.
Experience with electronic health record processing.
Certification:
Eligible to become a Notary Public in the State of Virginia within 90 days of hire.
Must apply within probationary period.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
