Responsibilities NSA is home to the largest and most established in-house research organization within the US Intelligence Community (IC), employing scientists with world-class skills in fields such as mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, and cybersecurity.
We collaborate with leading industries, universities, and national laboratories to advance core competencies, leverage work in overlapping disciplines, and solve some of the most challenging national security problems thought to be intractable by adversaries and commercial industry.
NSA's Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) is seeking quantum information scientists to work in a fast-paced team environment where university, industry, and federal government scientists collaborate on research in quantum and cryogenic devices, advanced communication, sensing, and computer technologies.
As a Quantum Researcher, and member of the LPS Quantum Computing Program Management team, you will push the frontiers of science by leveraging your expertise, ideas, and vision to:
Serve as a Project Director, working alongside physicists, engineers, computer scientists, and system architects to help shape the future of US computing interests; Lead research in modeling and simulation of quantum information systems.
This research is aimed at gaining a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various choices for realizing arrangements of quantum systems that provide advantage over classical alternatives for computation and sensing; Attract and collaborate with leading-edge scientists in quantum computing across governments, industry, and academia to understand the latest state-of-the-art research, and identify future research gaps and needs; Implement strategies by directing US Government investments; Advance US leadership in quantum information science for the benefit of the American people.
Job Summary As an Engineering and Physical Science professional, you will use your skills to create the systems and tools that will be used to enhance the operation of intelligence.
You will advise, administer and perform scientific projects, such as planning, designing, and constructing specialized equipment, and ensuring adherence to sound engineering and scientific standards and principles.
The NSA offers multiple areas of focus for facilities engineers, including computer, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural.
In addition, we are seeking skills that include computer design, microelectronics, radio frequency design, and systems engineering.

Qualifications Salary Range:
$86,389 - $116,788 (Full Performance) The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position.
Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position.
With a degree in professional Engineering, entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience.
With a degree in either (1) Physics or Astronomy from an accredited college or university or (2) a relevant professional technical field (eg chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, geology), entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's or Doctoral degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
For all of the above degrees, if program is not ABET EAC accredited, it must include specified coursework.
Specified coursework includes courses in differential and integral calculus and 5 of the following 18 areas:
(a) statics or dynamics, (b) strength of materials/stress-strain relationships, (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics, (d) thermodynamics, (e) electromagnetic fields, (f) nature and properties of materials/relating particle and aggregate structure to properties, (g) solid state electronics, (h) microprocessor applications, (i), computer systems, (j) signal processing, (k) digital design, (l) systems and control theory, (m) circuits or generalized circuits, (n) communication systems, (o) power systems, (p) computer networks, (q) software development, (r) Any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, or soil mechanics.
Relevant experience must be performing professional engineering or physical sciences work and/or conducting academic or independent research in a technical field (eg, mathematics, engineering, cognitive sciences and physical sciences).
Experience on polymath projects (requiring multiple skills), technical publications, patent applications, and teaching are preferred.
Salary Range:
$106,823 - $164,102 (Senior) The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position.

Competencies The ideal candidate is someone with excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, who possesses a range of knowledge and experience with:
Several layers of a quantum information system hierarchy, with an emphasis on logical functionality (eg, fault tolerant methods, sensor network design, quantum algorithm development in the circuit model paradigm, etc.
); Physical constraints on quantum systems, including the impact of noise and other error sources; Modeling and/or simulation to include ab initio software development, as well as the ability to leverage existing software; Software development in scripting languages such as python, C or C++; Quantum characterization (eg, randomized benchmarking, tomographic methods, etc.
).

Monday - Friday, with basic 8hr/day work requirements between 0600 to 1800 hrs (flexible).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
