Position Description If you enjoy fast paced but disciplined executive level communications and public affairs, with real influence on communications strategies and messaging at the national level, this position may be for you! The Defense Health Agency (DHA) Strategic Communications Directorate integrates the research, planning, execution and evaluation of all Military Health System (MHS) public affairs and communications programs across multiple communications channels and disciplines to a wide variety of key audiences at the national and global level, including all military hospitals and clinical facilities, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Joint Staff, the Veterans Administration, and the Congress. The DHA Director of Communications is looking for a mid level experienced Communications or Public Relations Specialist, with experience as a writer/editor for Defense Health organizations, to create and manage health affairs content for a diverse array of media/publications. You will partner with a creative team lead, within a larger communications organization, to identify communication requirements, create content and edit content in order to meet Military Health System strategic initiatives. Published content will be used across Military Health System strategic communications outputs for planning, media, web, and outreach/external events. You will be part of a 40 person team that works closely with the customer, Serco teammates and other partners to deliver effective communications content. This is an existing opportunity, and you will be joining an experience team that is firing on all cylinders. In this role you will:
Produce articles in support of MHS missions Collaborate with the Communications Division team to inform focus area of articles, identify subject matter experts, and determine outreach to appropriate DHA staff offices or MHS component organizations Provide support to web team for content accuracy and functionality of navigation and links on the websites Provide developed content to respond to media stories or concerns with op-ed letters for use in public statements by MHS leadership Use developed content to draft response to Congressional letters directed to MHS relating to the content issue Qualifications To be successful in this position, you will have:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field Minimum of 7 years of related work experience in content development, writing and editing content for various mediums The ability to cooperate with other writers and editors to complete projects and give feedback on writing projects Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications Effective communication skills as well as excellent writing and editing skills The ability to handle multiple projects concurrently Desirable qualifications include:
Public Health or health care administration experience or expertise Experience with DHA, VHA or DoD Comfort working at client offices and participating in internal corporate quality assurance processes Experience supporting senior military and political leaders
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Communications & PR, Editorial & Content ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
